SUMMER TUTORING PROGRAM

Heights of Hope has begun a summer tutoring program for children in the neighborhood. We meet from 10 to 11 on Tuesdays and Thursdays to read, do some math and maybe play a game together. It's fun and both students and tutors are learning!

CONVERSATIONAL ENGLISH CLASS

Sarah Johnson is teaching an English class to help develop your conversational skills. Class meets once a week at the Community Center. If you want more information please contact us at (616)392-8559 x.18 or at heightsofhope@yahoo.com

The A.M.P.

The "A.M.P." (A Meeting Place) is a place where people can meet and grow spiritually and emotionally. It is a apartment that is rented by Heights of Hope to have a central place to be able to get help from. It is also used to have a place that we can call "Headquarters" for when we host our community events.

S.O.A.R.
(
Representing the concerns of our neighborhood for the betterment of our community.)

Since last fall, a group of committed leaders from our neighborhood meets every other week to address concerns in our community. The group is called S.O.A.R., which stands for Stratford, Oxford, Abbey Court Representatives. The Interim Chief of the Holland Police Department has taken time to attend two of our meetings to listen to our concerns and to help us find solutions. The group is currently working on ways to help both landlords and tenants care for their properties so that our neighborhood is safer and cleaner!

LIL' BLUE AFTERSCHOOL PROGRAM

Two years ago Americorps members from Calvary started an afterschool program for middle school students. The program was such a hit that all of their younger siblings started attending as well. . .which prompted the creation of "Lil' Blue" as an afterschool program for K-5 students.

Lil' Blue meets every Thursday from 4:00-5:00at Holland Heights Church. The first 15 minutes are spent in activities or games, then the children partner off with tutors to focus on homework.

As the school year winds down, it is our hope to maintain a relationship with these students and continue to keep their minds active through our summer tutoring program.
